COLUMBUS -- For 24 hours, thousands of students at The Ohio State University will hold a dance marathon to wrap up the school’s largest student-run philanthropic effort.
Each year, BuckeyeThon collects money for pediatric cancer research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The donated money will go to the Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant floors.
“You know the doctors and nurses up there, they did everything in their power to try to help our daughter,” Scott Oliphant said.
For 18 months, Scott’s teenage daughter Lauren battled cancer on the 12th floor of Children’s.
“Our daughter was all about no one else having to go through what she went through,” Oliphant said.
The Oliphant family of Pickerington said they benefited from BuckeyeThon proceeds from previous years.
In 2017, The Ohio State University raised $1,338,872.37 for cancer research.
