PIKE COUNTY, Ohio - The Pike County and Franklin County Sheriff Offices are investigating a shooting involving deputies in Pike County on Wednesday.
Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said deputies had attempted to execute arrest warrants for 44-year-old David Brian Arthur around 12:30 p.m. at a residence on Wynn Road.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies negotiated with 56-year-old Barry Leeth and were admitted into the home where Leeth indicated Arthur’s location.
Deputies exited the house after believing Arthur was armed. At that time, Sheriff Reader contacted Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin to request assistance.
Pike County deputies attempted to negotiate with Arthur to surrender, which was unsuccessful.
Franklin County SWAT decided to deploy chemical munitions. Once this happened, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said weapons fire from inside the home began and shots were exchanged with deputies.
At 6 p.m., SWAT was able to enter the home and located Arthur with an assault rifle. A short time later, authorities say Arthur was fatally wounded.
Deputies then discovered Leeth, who had been fatally wounded.
Sheriff Reader has requested both the Franklin County Detective Bureau and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will continue to investigate the case.
