GROVE CITY, Ohio – Franklin County Public Health said there are now 16 confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease amid an outbreak at Mount Carmel Grove City.
Seventy-five-year-old Deanna Rezes died after being diagnosed.
Mount Carmel Health System says the hospital is working with health officials to identify the source of the bacteria at the branch.
State health officials say the first patient diagnosed with Legionnaires' was admitted to the hospital on April 29, the day after it opened.
The hospital said Thursday that water restrictions for floors two through seven have been lifted after implementing several measures to address the spread of Legionella.
Due to the fact that the incubation period of the illness can last up to 14 days, more diagnoses are possible.
People are infected with the severe form of pneumonia by inhaling airborne water droplets containing the Legionella bacterium.
