14-year-old boy in critical condition after accidental shooting in northeast Columbus

A teenager is in the hospital following what police call an accidental shooting in northeast Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A teenager is in the hospital following what police call an accidental shooting in northeast Columbus.

Columbus police say it happened just before 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Jermain Drive.

Officers found the 14-year-old boy inside the residence, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses tell police the boy was handling a firearm "in an unsafe manner" when he accidentally shot himself.

The teen was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
