Man dies after being shot during altercation at south Columbus apartment complex

Police said the shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the 600 block of East Morrill Avenue.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of the two men who were shot during an altercation at a south Columbus apartment complex Tuesday night has died.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the 600 block of East Morrill Avenue.

Police said the two men, both 25, were involved in an altercation with the suspect. During the dispute, shots were fired and both men were struck by bullets.

One of the victims, Daeshawn Simington, died from his injuries on Wednesday, according to police.

The other man was shot in the arm and is expected to be fine.

Police did not provide an update on a possible suspect.

Simington's death is the 109th homicide in the city for 2022.

This was one of three shootings within six hours on Tuesday in the city.

Police were called to the 1000 block of Atcheson Street around 6:20 for a report of a shooting. Officers found two males in the street and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses saw a male running east from Atcheson Street, according to Columbus Police Lt. Wade Spears.

Police believe the victims are in their late teens or early 20s.

About an hour earlier, one person was critically injured while sitting in their car in the area of Morse Road and Evanswood Drive. They were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

Police have not released any information about a possible suspect in either shooting.
