Firefighters rushed to a fire at a vacant church Saturday night near the Short North.

The flames broke out at East 4th Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire and climbed on ladders to put out flames burning on the roof.

Firefighters said they were watching the fire overnight to keep an eye on hot spots.

According to Bethany Baptist Church's website, the building was built in 1906, and the church group moved to a new location in 1968.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause.
