Fairfield County Moving Toward ‘No-Kill’ Dog Shelter

Fairfield County commissioners say its shelter is euthanizing fewer dogs. Get the story.

Fairfield County commissioners said the county is moving toward a "no-kill" dog shelter.

Commissioners said the euthanization rate was 17 percent in 2012, down from 34 percent in 2011. Ten percent and below is considered a "no kill" facility.

The shelter stopped gassing dogs last year and started using lethal injections instead.

Shelter officials are now looking at other options to reduce the number of dogs they have to put down.
