The Ohio State University College of Dentistry celebrated Give Kids A Smile Day on Saturday.

Students, faculty and staff provided free dental exams, cleanings and other treatment as needed for about 200 children.

"Their response has been wonderful. Everyone has been smiling by the end and really appreciated of the effort we've been available to achieve at no monetary cost," OSU Assistant Professor of Dentistry Dr. Elizabeth Gosnell said.

Dr. Gosnell said the experience was also beneficial to dental students.

"The good thing for the students is that they're going to get exposure to this patient population as well as getting to see children, because we need general dentists when they graduate to be able to see children in the community to really gap the needs for these kids," she said.

Give Kids a Smile is a national program sponsored by the American Dental Association.

Children who received care were referred to the College of Dentistry by Columbus Public Health.

Dr. Gosnell said the school hopes to hold similar clinics several times a year.
