COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man accused of fatally shooting a woman in a Blendon Township shopping center parking lot last month was indicted on murder charges.

Franklin County Common Pleas court records say 29-year-old Rodney Amir Perry was indicted on two counts of murder. The indictment also includes a count each of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence.

On the evening of Jan. 10, police said Perry shot and killed Amara Jones in the Sunbury Plaza parking lot, just outside of Westerville.

Arriving officers found Jones shot inside of a car. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead about an hour after the shooting.

After the shooting, dispatchers said Perry made multiple 911 calls admitting to the killing. Police said Perry also told dispatchers that he told his child's mother on the phone that he would not go back to jail and that he would rather be shot by police.

Perry was found and arrested in North Carolina the following day.

It's not clear if Perry and Jones knew each other and authorities have not said if there was a motive behind the shooting.
