Widow of Man Murdered Leaving Golden Corral Asks for Help Finding Suspect

Police are continuing to search for the gunman who killed Shueyb Abukar in the Golden Corral parking lot on Dublin Granville Road Friday night.

Columbus detective say the murder of a husband and father of six appears to be a random attack and attempted robbery.  Police are continuing to search for the gunman who killed Shueyb Abukar in the Golden Corral parking lot on Dublin Granville Road Friday night.

Abukar’s widow told 10TV she wants justice for the man who tore her family apart.  "Hell, I don't know where to start my life,” Amal Abukar said.

Being surrounded by family and friends is comforting to Amal Abukar, but it won’t stop the pain she’s feeling right now.  "Miserable. I haven't (eaten) in three days. I'm not feeling well. My little son – three-and-a-half years - is crying for his daddy.”

Her life changed Friday night after an outing of shopping and dinner with her family. She walked out of the Golden Corral restaurant near Dublin with her husband, Shueyb Abukar, and their six kids, when the unthinkable happened.

"I screamed at him, I said ‘don't kill my husband, we have six kids. We are family. I'll give you whatever you wanted. Don't shoot him,’” Abukar recalls.

She says she remembers he wore a red hooded sweatshirt and Ohio State Buckeyes pajama pants.

She says the man didn’t talk, just flashed a gun and shot her husband in the leg.  Family tells 10TV the suspect shot Shueyb Abukar again in the back and ran off with his wallet.

"The thing is, my kids were watching. He (Shueyb Abukar) was holding my two sons,” Amal said.

Abukar says Shueyb was a great father. "He was the sweetest dad, the sweetest husband. He did everything for us. That morning he fixed us breakfast. We had our coffee, we talked.”

Unsure how to move on, Amal is turning to the Columbus community. She says she hopes catching the person who did this to her family will help her get some kind of peace.

"I need help form the public. I want this guy to come forward. I need the public to help me. Please, me and my six kids. We need justice.”

If you saw anything Friday night around 6:30 at the Golden Corral on Dublin Granville Road, please call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
