A man was robbed of his cell phone and shot several times while playing the wildly popular augmented reality game in the Linden area late Tuesday night.
According to Columbus police, 26-year-old Gregory Wheeler was playing the app-based game around 9:40 p.m. with a friend in the area of Linden Park. During that time, a 14-year-old boy rode up to Wheeler and asked to use his cell phone to call his mother. Wheeler handed over the phone and the teen fled the area.
When Wheeler attempted to get the phone back, he was hit in the head by another unknown perpetrator and shot three times by the teen. Police did not immediately provide a condition for the wounded man.
The gunman was later arrested and admitted to police to firing the weapon. 10TV is not naming the suspect because he is a juvenile.
Meantime, the other suspect who struck Wheeler in the head was not apprehended. A police report only describes him as a black male between 14- and 15-years-old.
