Firefighters Concerned About Suspicious Vehicle Fires

The Marion Fire Department is investigating a cluster of suspicious vehicle fires. Get the story.

Marion City Firefighters say they're concerned for people's safety after a day of suspicious vehicle fires.

It happened in the neighborhoods on the Southwest side of Marion.

Authorities say a total of five cars were torched earlier Tuesday morning. One of the victims, Misty Lowry, says she's concerned about what could happen next.

"I was just in utter shock. It still seems like a bad dream and I'm going to wake up any time and it was a joke," Lowry said.

Lowry says her husband returned home on Tuesday morning and discovered the door to their family vehicle had been charred.

"It's really scary. There's either some kids out here having what they consider some sick fun or maybe we have a serial arsonist." said Lowry.

What's even scarier she says is what her husband left in the backseat last night. He left a can filled with gas

"What if one of them would have blown up? It could have taken out two families?," said Lowry.

Lowry was one of five neighbors on or near Bellefontaine Avenue who discovered the damage.

"It didn't appear that there were any accelerants used in these fires. They were contained pretty much to the interior of the vehicles," said Captain Wade Ralph of the Marion City Fire Department

Fire officials say no one was hurt in the string of morning car fires, but they are concerned.

"Where are they going to take it from here? That's what we're concerned about right now," Captain Ralph said.

Investigators tell 10TV that all of the cars damaged are a total loss.
