Bounty hunter shoots wanted man to death at west Harris County apartment complex, sheriff says

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the wanted man possibly tried to run over the bounty hunter in a vehicle before he was killed.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was shot to death Monday by a bounty hunter in west Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 19300 block of Park Row Drive.

Gonzalez said a fugitive recovery agent -- or bounty hunter -- was looking for a wanted man at the apartments. When he found him, the fugitive tried to leave in a vehicle.

The bounty hunter blocked the fugitive's car as the vehicle pulled up to a locked exit gate, Gonzalez said. The bounty hunter then got out of his vehicle and pointed a gun at the fugitive who was still in his car.

Gonzalez said the fugitive then reversed his car heading towards the bounty hunter, who then opened fire, killing the man as his vehicle passed him.

Investigators said the man's fiancée was in the front seat and a 3-month-old child was in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Neither was hurt.

Investigators said the man had an open warrant for an aggravated assault-family violence charge.

The sheriff said the investigation in to the fatal shooting continues and the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
