Bicyclist dies after being struck by vehicle in north Columbus hit-skip

Police said the vehicle drove away from the scene while dragging the bicycle.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A bicyclist who was seriously injured after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing an intersection in north Columbus earlier this summer has died.

The incident happened on June 26 just after midnight in the area of East Dublin Granville Road and the intersection of the off-ramp from Interstate 71.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, Craig Harper was riding on a bike approaching the intersection at the same time as an oncoming vehicle.

Harper was crossing in front of the vehicle when he was struck by the vehicle and thrown from the bicycle.

Police said the vehicle drove away from the scene heading westbound on East Dublin Granville Road and then north through the Self Storage business parking lot while dragging the bicycle. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Boardwalk Street.

He was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Police said they were notified last week that Harper passed away.

Police said they have not identified the driver or vehicle involved at this time.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Accident Investigation Unit at 614-645-4767 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
