CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police are looking for a man and woman after a small explosive device was found inside a Chillicothe apartment Tuesday morning.

Captain Tim Gay said around 9:30 a.m., court officers with the Chillicothe Municipal Court went to conduct an eviction at an apartment in the 900 block of Dayton Street.

While setting out property that belonged to a man and woman who lived inside the apartment, court officers found what they suspected was a small explosive device.

The officers then called the Chillicothe Police and Chillicothe Fire departments.

Once the device was confirmed to be an actual explosive, the Chillicothe Fire Department called the Columbus Division of Fire Bomb Squad.

Nearby homes were evacuated, according to police.

The device was safely disassembled by the bomb squad and no one was hurt.

Police have not released the names of the man and woman who lived at the apartment, but authorities are looking for them. Police have also not said if the pair will face any charges.

All evacuated residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
