The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 911 call Sunday at the Comfort Inn on Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg on a report that a child may have drowned in the motel's pool.
Upon arrival, paramedics were already on scene and transported 4-year-old Abby Ruby to the Southern Ohio Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Sheriff’s deputies say Abby was playing in the motel’s pool with other children Sunday afternoon when her mother noticed the child was missing. Another parent found the child at the bottom on the five-foot-deep pool and brought her to the surface for CPR until paramedics arrived. According to a release from the sheriff's office, the parents of the children playing in the pool were socializing in the pool area at the time of the drowning.
Sheriff Marty Donini called the drowning a “terrible tragedy” and a preliminary investigation indicates the death was accidental.
