After 37 years, a body found in the Scioto River in Ross County has been identified.

The Ross County coroner said he now knows who 'Scioto John' was, although his name will not be released until they talk to the family.

A fisherman found the body in June 1975. It was buried at the cemetery, but was exhumed in November 2011.

At that time, a second autopsy and anthropological exam was conducted at the Hamilton County Coroner's office. The profile was sent to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

More DNA testing was done, and a facial reconstruction sculpture was released to the public in May.

After the images of the sculpture were released, a niece of a missing person saw the sculpture and felt there was a resemblance to her missing uncle and made contact to the coroner's office.

The family has provided a DNA sample that confirmed the ID.
