3 Family Members Shot To Death; Woman Charged

UPDATED: We are learning more about a triple shooting that deputies say was witnessed by a 6-year-old boy. Get the latest.

Deputies said a person was in custody Tuesday after three family members were found shot todeath inside a mobile home.

According to Scioto County sheriff's deputies, Kara Garvin, 29, was charged with three counts ofaggravated murder in connection with the shootings that occurred Monday evening, 10TV's TanishaMallett reported.

Authorities were called to the home at about 7 p.m. after a 6-year-old boy who was covered inblood ran to a neighbor's house for help. Deputies said they believe the boy witnessed the slayingsof his grandparents and young aunt.

"He said, 'They killed my grandma, my grandpa and my aunt,'" said neighbor Bob Damron.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini said questioning the boy about the shootings was difficultbut essential to the investigation.

"You have to ask those questions because the child is a key component to this investigation,"Donini said.

The shooting victims were identified as Edward Mollett, 46, his wife, Juanita Mollett, 43, andtheir daughter, Christina Mollett, 20.

Deputies said the shootings appeared to be drug-related, and that Garvin likely went to the hometo acquire Oxycontin, Mallett reported.

"Our investigation is leading us to believe that (Garvin) came there for the purpose of robberyof the drugs and ended up shooting the three victims," Donini said.

Garvin turned herself into authorities about five hours after the shootings, deputies said.Later in the day,she was ordered held on $1.5 million bond, Mallett reported.

Investigators said they were searching for a second person in connection with the shootings.

Deputies said they believe that Paul Balmer, 46, was with Garvin on Monday night and waited inthe car while she allegedly committed the slayings, Mallett reported.

Franklin Furnace is located about 15 miles away from Portsmouth, along the Ohio River.
