Two men have been charged for their role in the robbery and theft of money from a Girl Scout troop outside Walmart in Canal Winchester.

Deputies were called to Walmart Sunday after one of the suspects grabbed the money box from one of the Girl Scouts selling cookies outside. That suspect then fled on foot to a nearby vehicle which then drove away.

After speaking to witnesses and receiving tips from the community, the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office was able to find suspects 26-year-old Russell Lee Oehlers and 31-year-old Jeffery Wendall Craig

“Detectives believe Oehlers ran up to the girls and stole the money box while Craig waited in a nearby parking lot. The two fled the scene in a red convertible Ford Mustang,” Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen said.

Both men have been charged with one count each of robbery, safecracking and theft.

The charges carry a penalty of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
