New documentary shows behind-the-scenes of BalletMet's "The Nutcracker"

"The Nutcracker" is one of the most highly-anticipated holiday shows. But it's what's off the stage and behind the scenes that'll be revealed in a new Justice Studios and Elevate Pictures documentary, called "Finding Clara".

The makers of "Finding Clara" say the documentary is all about empowerment and hard work, through the eyes of four young ladies who auditioned for BalletMet's "The Nutcracker."

"It's the story of 'The Nutcracker' just told differently and uniquely from the perspective of Clara," says Traci Graziania, Director of Marketing Strategy at Justice.

That perspective is from the young ladies who play a lead role, starting with competitive auditions.

"The auditions are a little bit stressful. There are a bunch of nerves going on," explains 11-year-old Lauren Grace Onderko.

All of the hard-working ladies who received the role of "Clara" joined 10TV's Karina Nova to talk about being featured in the documentary. They all happen to be from Central Ohio and were honored to play the role of Clara in last year's BalletMet performance of the Nutcracker.

"It's still crazy to think that that was the main part and we got lucky enough to get it," says 13-year-old Alaina Kelly.

"I can just imagine myself in the seats and watching Clara she looked so grown up and being able to dance that role is just amazing," says Molly Rainford Dreibelbis.

Isabelle Lapierre says the documentary lets viewers see the months of hard work put in to get ready for a massive production like this.

"It shows all of the behind-the-scenes and rehearsal process and how much work it takes to be in the Nutcracker and be Clara," Isabelle explains.

"I think people don't realize how much work goes into dance. On stage, we try to make it look as effortless as possible. They don't see what happens in rehearsals, if something goes wrong we have to fix it," Molly adds.

Viewers will get to see all of that behind every turn of this one-of-a-kind documentary while taking away some important lessons.

"Hard work can pay off and be fun still too," Isabelle says.

"No matter who you are and where you come from you can bring something special to the table and we really believe in that," Traci explains.

BalletMet's "The Nutcracker" is live on stage from December 7-23 at the Ohio Theatre.
