New craft beer made by women to benefit women around Columbus

COLUMBUS - On this International Women’s Day there are many female accomplishments to celebrate, but 10TV spoke with one group of women aiming to break down the barriers in an industry most often associated with men; the craft beer industry.

That group of women, at Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, is aiming to change the misconception that beer, especially craft beer, is a beverage just for men. And their efforts are for a good cause.

“We’re here. We’re strong. We do enjoy craft beer and I think there could be more of us out there drinking craft beer if we made the community more inclusive,” said Jenna DiCicco, a sales representative for Wolf’s Ridge Brewing.

The City of Columbus is already welcoming to the industry as a whole but DiCicco and coworker, Jenny Hauk want to take things a step further.

That is what led them to create a beer by women, for women, called Ladies Who Brunch.

The imperial-style breakfast ale will make its premier Thursday, which is by no coincidence, International Women’s Day.

The female-led team wanted to create a brew that serves as a celebration of women in the craft brewery industry but that isn’t all.

“We didn’t just want to brew a beer for the beer industry,” said Hauk, event coordinator and in-house marketing representative for Wolf’s Ridge. “We wanted to do something to give back to our city.”

To do that, the women decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from the Ladies Who Brunch draft and bottles sales to the YWCA Columbus.

The organization works locally to eliminate racism and empower women in the community.

“It was pretty easy to find a good partner in the YWCA Columbus because they do an amazing job helping women every single day in need,” Hauk said.

For those wondering how this particular craft beer will taste, Hauk told 10TV it might be surprising.

“We didn’t just want to do a light, fruity sort of beer that you, I think would assume would be marketed towards women,” she said.

The beer is made with darker malts, Ohio maple syrup, orange peel, cinnamon, coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla and toasted coconut.
