Mount Carmel, doctor face another wrongful death lawsuit

COLUMBUS – Another wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Mount Carmel, its former doctor William Husel and two other unnamed caregivers.

More than two dozen lawsuits have been filed against the hospital and Husel since 10 Investigates broke the news of the patient overdose scandal in January.

The latest lawsuit alleges that Ryan Hayes received a lethal dose of fentanyl and died at Mount Carmel West on April 4, 2017.

The hospital fired Husel in December following an internal investigation.

To date, 35 patients are believed to have received “excessive” doses of pain medication between 2014 and 2018.

While the hospital initially said that all of the patients were near death and in intensive care; just last month the hospital announced at least five of the patients could have seen their conditions improve with treatment.
