Mixed Emotions For Family Of Local Missing Woman

There are families in Columbus who know all too well the agony felt by the families of the Cleveland three. They have experienced years without answers as hope fades by the day.
Carla Losey's mother, Pam Conner, has lived more than 10 years in the worst kind of limbo. Her daughter is missing and leads dried up long ago.

She watches the news in Cleveland with a mix of hope and heartbreak.

The Columbus Police Missing Persons Unit handles some 6,500 cases a year.

"Out of those, very, very few are not located," said Columbus Police Missing Persons Unit Detective Jon Compson.

Like the rest of the world, these detectives have been watching in amazement the news out of Cleveland.

Compson says it brings them new hope of solving our city's long-term missing cases.

"This is probably 8 of the 20, 25 cases we're actively working that tend to be long-term or cold cases."

Carla Losey is one of those cases.

She was last seen leaving a West Columbus bar on New Year's Eve 2002.
"My mom passed away without knowing where her granddaughter was," Conner said. "I don't want to go before I know where she is."

News of the miracle in Cleveland brings a mix of emotions.

"Very happy for their families," said Conner. "But I'm jealous. I wish it was us."

She prays for the sliver of information that could solve this mystery.

"Nobody ever has to know that you told. But I beg for somebody to please tell what you know."

Detective Compson says the smallest detail could be the key.

"It could be the one little piece that came in, after another little piece yesterday, and another little piece the day before that."

"As a parent I'm supposed to protect my kids," says Conner. "And I feel like I'm failing her because I can't find her."

Carla Losey is one of 260 people currently listed as missing in Ohio.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office has a complete list, searchable by your community or county.
