A Marysville High School teacher was removed by police from the school following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student involving a student.

The school district emailed parents a letter addressing the situation.  It said they learned about allegations Thursday afternoon.  It explained the teacher was escorted from the school and relieved of duty.

Marysville Police said they questioned the teacher, but have not filed charges at this time.

It's the kind of news no parent wants to hear.

With little information about who the teacher is or if the allegation happened on school property, parents say they understand why the school isn't saying much.

“I understand the privacy issue,” said one parent.  “Hopefully it's just a rumor.”

Marysville's Superintendent sent a letter home to parents saying, "The accused was escorted from the Marysville High School campus without delay and relieved of duty.  Marysville Police and Children's Services were brought in to begin an investigation promptly."

Parents say they hope for both parties involved, the truth comes out.

The teacher is on paid administrative leave and counselors will be at the school on Friday for students who need them..

The email sent from the superintendent to families in Marysville is below.

Marysville Families:

Typically I share with our families the positive news about our schools. Today, however, I’m reaching out to you regarding a serious allegation that was brought to our attention late this afternoon. One of our Marysville High School teachers has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. The accused was escorted from the Marysville High School campus without delay and relieved of duty.  Marysville Police and Children’s Services were brought in to begin an investigation promptly.

As a parent and educator, I understand just how sacred a responsibility we all have to keep children safe. We are deeply saddened by the day’s events and we take these allegations seriously. We fully support the work of the Marysville Police Department, Children’s Services and of our administrative team in conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation.

I will continue to update the community and parents about this situation if and when events develop.

Sincerely,
Diane Mankins
Superintendent
