Man killed in self-defense shooting in Franklinton

COLUMBUS, Ohio - One man is dead after a self-defense shooting in Franklinton Thursday night, according to Columbus police.

Police said officers were called to a robbery in the area of West Town Street near Hawkes Avenue around 10:20 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a man injured from a gunshot wound. First responders pronounced 39-year-old Thomas Hunt dead on the scene.

Witnesses told detectives that Hunt initiated the violence by assaulting a person with his gun. Hunt was then fatally shot in an act of self-defense.

Detectives say they are processing the scene and will present the evidence to the Franklin County prosecutor’s office. No charges have been filed in this case.

This incident remains under investigation.

This is the 34th homicide in 2019 in the city of Columbus
