Officers investigating a disturbance call Monday night discovered a man who had been stabbed to death in a rooming house.

Police were called to the West Harrison Street at about 10 p.m., 10TV News reported.

Residents at the home told the officers that nothing was wrong, but they searched the home as a precaution and found John Stouffer's body in an upstairs room.

He was stabbed several times and was pronounced dead at the scene, Bell reported.

Newark police Sgt. Scott Snow said investigators spoke with most of the residents and had no suspects or motives for the killing, Bell reported.

Neighbor Ryin Nethers said he was a little uneasy knowing that no arrests had been made.

"You don't know what you should keep at home," Nethers said. "Should you sleep with a gun under your mattress? With two kids how can you do that?"

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newark police at 740-670-7215.
