Man dies in single-vehicle crash in Marion County

MARION – The Marion troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash in Marion County that happened Friday night.

It happened around 11:40 p.m. on State Route 739 near Crissinger Road.

James Gates, IV, 42 of Marion, was driving eastbound on SR-739 when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the right side of the road. Gates struck a mailbox, traffic sign, utility pole, and culvert which caused the vehicle to overturn and strike a tree before coming to a final stop.

Gates was then taken to Marion General Hospital and transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by Med Flight. Gates was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
