Man charged with OVI in Union County crash that injured state trooper

UNION COUNTY, Ohio - An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop Friday afternoon in Union County, according to OSHP.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 347 and East Liberty Road.

Lt. Robert Sellers with OSHP said trooper Michael Austin was out of the cruiser when another vehicle hit his cruiser before hitting him and the car that was stopped.

Austin was taken to Union County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

The other driver also had minor injuries.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

OSHP said the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the trooper, 42-year-old Chad Wall of Lakeview, Ohio, is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired.
