WESTERVILLE – The man charged with shooting and killing two Westerville police officers on Feb. 10 has been released from the hospital and taken to jail.

City of Westerville officials identified Quentin L. Smith, 30, as the man suspected of shooting and killing officers Anthony Morelli, 54, Eric Joering, 39.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday at 9 a.m., according to court records.

Last week, two counts of aggravated murder were filed against Smith in Franklin County Municipal Court.

The officers were responding to a 911 hang-up call when Smith pointed a handgun at the officers once they were inside an apartment on Cross Wind Drive, and shots were exchanged, according to court records.

Authorities said Smith was wounded and taken into custody at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Smith has since been released from the hospital and taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Smith was named in several other incident reports at the location of the shooting from this year and 2017.
