Longtime radio general manager killed in Heath crash

HEATH, Ohio – The general manager of WNKO/WHTH Radio in Newark was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash.

Heath police say 73-year-old John T. Swank, who went by Tom, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Hopewell Drive.

The Newark-based radio station shared their condolences after hearing of the loss of their longtime GM, friend and mentor. In a Facebook post, the station said Tom was known as a "tough-minded but fair man" who supported numerous charitable organizations in Licking County.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Swank joined WNKO/WHTH in 1970 as a salesman after working for the Newark Advocate. He was promoted to general manager in 1988.

Swank's car was found flip over in a ditch near the entrance of Park Lanes Bowling Alley. The crash remains under investigation.
