COLUMBUS, Ohio — F3 is a group of men, ages 18 and up, that meets every morning to work out and support each other.

The national organization began in North Carolina in 2011 and made its way to Columbus March of 2017.

A spokesperson for the group, Rob Meyers, said it's a way for men to overcome feelings of loneliness, depression and just wanting that sense of brotherhood again.

He said it's fathers, husbands and sons getting together to do various workouts every morning, boot camp style.

One of their sayings is "no man left behind," which means they all work out at their own pace but stick together while doing so.

Steve Frederick is a father of three and a member of F3. He said it's not only a good way to get an early morning sweat in, but it helps them cope with life challenges, whether it's mentally or physically.

"You're competing against yourself and pushing yourself to be better," Frederick said.

For Tim Phelps, he's overcoming both.

Three years ago, he suffered from a 100% blockage and his brother passed away from cancer.

"When I'm working out, I just don't give up, I keep pressing like my brother did," Phelps said.

Each person who joins the team gets a nickname, which makes it feel more like a family.

Members told 10TV the group helps them improve as fathers, husbands and men who just want to have the support from other men who may be going through similar situations.

"When I get home, I make my kids breakfast. They get a hot breakfast every morning," Frederick said.

Meyers said after the workout, the group will meet at Colin's Coffee, for what they call "Coffeteria."

He said for the women, there is a free group called FIA and they meet every Saturday at 8 a.m. at Wyman Woods in Grandview.

Anyone is welcome to join either group and they can find locations and times on their Facebook pages. The men's Facebook page can be found here and the Twitter page can be found here.
