Kasich To Be Sworn In As Ohio's Next Governor

John Kasich will officially take over as Ohio's new governor early Monday morning.

As Gov.-elect, the Republican will take the oath of office at midnight, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

After defeating incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland, Kasich got straight to work after the election, challenging Strickland on issues like passenger trains, school calamity days and cabinet appointments.

Kasich faces several challenges when he takes office including a state budget deficit of $8-billion.

The former congressman, Fox News commentator, author and investment banker is ready to get going. He has already named the bulk of his cabinet, including new budget, prisons, public safety, and economic development directors.

He will be sworn in at an Ohio Statehouse ceremony after Strickland's term officially expires, at 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The private midnight event is required because the previous governor's term, by law, ends at 11:59 p.m. the day before.
A ceremonial inauguration will take place at the Ohio Theatre at noon on Monday.

Kasich's inaugural ball is scheduled for Monday evening at the Columbus Convention Center.

The event follows a weekend of inauguration celebrations that included a family day at the Statehouse.

10TV News and 10TV.com will have live coverage of Kasich's inauguration beginning Monday morning.
