There are apps for just about everything these days, from home security to starting a business. The newest entry is an application that targets the millions across the United States who have had a knee or hip replacement.

The app is called "My Mobility" and it is paired with the Apple watch to help patients learn what to expect in their upcoming replacement procedures. It also communicates timely reminders to aimed at easing anxiety.

The Joint Implant Surgeons of New Albany is one of nine national centers in the U.S. taking part in a clinical study of the application, which is a collaboration with Apple and Zimmer Biomet.

Dr. Keith Berend said he and his team will look at how participants use the technology before and after surgery, and they will weigh whether using the application for exercise is equal to, better than or worse than traditional physical therapy.
