Dr. Phil is defending his decision to have Nick Gordon on his show.

The TV host says Gordon was "volatile," emotionally distraught and "in an altered state of consciousness" when he taped what his people have called an "intervention."

Dr. Phil says Gordon has "an enormous amount of guilt and pain" over Bobbi Kristina Brown, his partner who has been fighting for her life in an Atlanta hospital after being found face-down in their bathtub more than a month ago.

McGraw says he didn't ask Gordon what happened to Brown because that would be inappropriate.

Asked if having Gordon on the show was appropriate, McGraw said it was, because it got Gordon placed into rehab.

The show airs at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, on WBNS-10TV.
