Hospital system helps with community need

June is National Safety Month, which focuses on reducing the leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road and in our homes and communities.

In Ross County, there is a special focus on accidental death after a recent health needs survey revealed it is the third leading cause of death there.

Adena Health System partnered with business and community leaders in the county to address the contributors. Two of the major factors include drug overdoses and car accidents.

One of the community partners is the Ohio State Highway Patrol which reports impaired drivers, drivers not wearing seatbelts and speeding drivers are of particular concern.

In 2017, the Adena Regional Medical Center emergency department saw 751 patients for accident-related injuries. Year to date, there have been 332 accident-related injuries in the ED at Adena Regional.
