Franklinton man shot, killed with assault rifle he was attempting to sell, records show

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Police have arrested two people accused of fatally shooting a man Saturday night.

Scott Salyer, 28, and Meagan Purks, 18, were arrested around 9:10 a.m. Sunday morning near Mound and Woodbury Street.

In their arraignments Monday, Purks was given a $25,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for May 1. Salyer received a $1.5 million bond, with a preliminary hearing set for May 2. Both are charged with murder.

According to court documents, Salyer and Purks went to the home on Wisconsin Avenue, and Salyer was interested in purchasing an assault rifle. While looking at the rifle, Salyer loaded it, pointed it at the victim, demanded money and then shot him.Police said the shooting call came in about 8:45 p.m. Saturday on Wisconsin Avenue.

When police arrived, they found Larry Eugene Dayton, 59, inside the residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both suspects were taken into custody and this shooting remains under investigation.
