Firefighter evaluated for heat exhaustion while battling east Columbus fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus fire crews responded to a house fire on Montaine Avenue just before 4 a.m. Thursday morning in east Columbus.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire in the rear of the residence. During the process of working to put the fire out, a firefighter suffered heat related issues, according to Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin.

Martin says the firefighter was transported to Grant Medical Center for evaluation and is expected to be OK. No other injuries were reported.

The fire has been contained and an investigator has been called to the scene to determine what caused the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
