Family thankful suspect in custody after murdering their loved one in south Columbus garage

Family members are still grieving the loss of their beloved family member Tonya Daniels, glad the suspect is behind bars.

Columbus police say Daniels was left unresponsive in a garage in the 900 block of Seymour Avenue on Feb. 24.

The suspect 48-year-old Troy Hairston turned himself in to authorities Thursday and has been charged with murder, according to the affidavit obtained Franklin County Municipal Court.

The affidavit also says Daniels' death was the result of blunt force trauma to the head and Hairston confessed to taking her life.

“She was the sweetest person anybody knew like she said she was always giving,” Angel Roddy who is Daniels’ sister in law said.

“A part of my heart was broken knowing I won’t see her again it’s devastating.”

Troy Hairston is being charged with rape, kidnapping and murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond for the murder charge.
