COLUMBUS, Ohio — If you're looking for a fun way to stay cool from the week's extreme heat with your kids, how about going 105 feet below the earth while learning about Ohio history at the same time?

You can do that at Olentangy Indian Caverns off of Hard Road.

Once you walk down the steps below the earth's surface, you instantly feel the cool temperature. It's 55 degrees all year long.

If spending the day in a cavern isn't your thing, of course, there are always local pools.

Columbus, Westerville, Grove City all expect record crowds Friday through the weekend.

"Make sure you have plenty of water. Bring water, use the water fountain. When you start seeing kids starting getting pink in the face and breathing a little heavy, get them in the shade," said Tim Baker, Grove City Aquatics Supervisor.

You'll want to check the pool hours before you go, as not all pools open and close at the same time.

Experts warn parents to make sure they re-apply sunscreen once your child gets out of the pool and bring water to prevent dehydration.

If the public pool isn't to your liking, there are always free splash pads to let your kids sit in:
