Off-duty Columbus police officer shoots home invasion suspect

COLUMBUS - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating a police-involved shooting that happened out of a home invasion in southwest Franklin County.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Gay Road.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, an off-duty Columbus Police Sergeant was sleeping in his home when he was by the sound of glass breaking.

The officer then discovered a burglar coming into his house. The officer grabbed his weapon and shot the burglar as he fled the home.

Shortly after the incident, police received a report of a man on South Highland Avenue who had been shot.

Authorities said the man who was found shot is the same person who broke into the sergeant’s home. Authorities identified him as 36-year-old Jason Boswell.

Boswell was taken to Mount Carmel West in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. He has been charged with aggravated robbery.

The officer was not hurt in the incident.
