The Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks opened a field designated for drones at the newest park, Scioto Grove Metro Park in Grove City.

Metro Parks Director Tim Moloney said it made sense for the Metro Parks to open up a space like this for visitors.

"We not only have the space, we have the expertise where they're not going to interfere with natural resources, breeding bird habitats or anything at all," Moloney says.

The area is free and open to the public to use 365 days a year.

Moloney plans to add two more drone fields at the parks in 2018.

In Ohio, if you own a drone, you must register it with The Federal Aviation Administration. That's applies to any drone that weighs more than half a pound.

Once you register, you get a certificate with an Identification number for your drone.

You must be able to see your drone at all times when you fly it.
