Cruisers crash during pursuit in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — A man is in custody after leading deputies on a chase, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies tried to pull over 30-year-old Mardis Stevens in the area of Alum Creek Drive and Spiegel Drive around 10:40 a.m. Friday.

Stevens was driving a vehicle that matched the description of one stolen in Pickaway County, the sheriff’s office said.

After failing to stop, deputies pursued Stevens.

In the area of Alum Creek Drive and Winslow Drive, a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputy crashed with an Obetz Police cruiser during the chase. Neither law enforcement officer was injured.

Stevens and a passenger were later apprehended near apartments on Winslow Drive by Columbus police.

Stevens is charged with receiving stolen property.

The passenger was taken to Grant Medical Center on a suspected drug overdose. That person’s name and condition were not released.
