Monica Hawkins, a judge with the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Division, was arrested for OVI following a traffic stop Thursday night, according to police.

Pickerington police say they received a call about an erratic driver traveling northbound on Route 256 near Refugee Road at around 8:30 p.m.

Officers pulled over Hawkins, who was arrested on an OVI charge, processed and released.

According to details in a police report from the Pickerington Police Department, an officer noticed a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

Hawkins had trouble answering the officer’s requests correctly and completing the requested tasks during the field sobriety testing, according to the report.

She refused a chemical test at the police department and police obtained a warrant for a blood sample, police said in the report.

Hawkins was taken to a local hospital where she again refused to give a blood sample so security had to hold her down to obtain it, according to the report.

She was then issued a traffic summons and told her next court date is on Feb. 14.

Hawkins was elected as judge in November.
