Columbus Police officer shoots dog after being bitten (UPDATE)

A Columbus Police officer has been released from the hospital after being bitten by a dog Thursday night.

The incident happened at the Extra Space Storage on S. Hamilton Road behind the Fairfield Inn as officers were responding to a disturbance call.

Officers arrived to the scene and found a male and female along with a dog. It is not known who the dog belonged to or if it was a stray.

The dog attacked and bit one of the officers. The officer that was bit and two other officers fired shots at the dog. Due to conflicting reports, it's unclear if the dog was wounded by the gunfire.

Officials say the dog ran off, but was found and taken in by Animal Control.

Roughly an hour after the incident, the female who was on the scene claimed she was hit by something, although she was never transported.
