COLUMBUS -- A move by Columbus city council could save lives in honor of an 11-year-old girl.

Elizabeth Robertson-Rutland was struck and killed by two vehicles last month while she walked to her bus stop.

Council passed a resolution Monday night authorizing $10,000 to buy reflectors.

Those reflectors will go on backpacks, bicycles and articles of clothing for middle school students.

"We understand that these reflectors are not a complete solution to this problem," council member and sponsor Shayla Favor said. "But they are a first step to making students walking to school and bus stops more visible to drivers."

The first driver who hit Elizabeth stopped. The second one didn't. At last check, that driver remained on the run.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a reward in the search.
