COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus babysitter is facing charges of assault and endangering children.

According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, children who were in the care of 22-year-old Destinie Preston were hurt.

According to court records, Preston left a two-year-old child unsupervised in her yard for at least two hours in May 2018.

Police said she admitted she did not check on the child because she was entertaining other guests inside the home, according to court records.

Court records show the child had head and spine injuries.

She is facing misdemeanor counts of assault and endangering children in that case.

In a separate incident, three other children were allegedly hurt while in Preston’s care.

The grandmother of a 4-year-old, 2-year-old and 13-month-old noticed bruising on her grandchildren when she picked them up after Preston watched them for a few days in June 2019, according to court records.

The 4-year-old and 2-year-old had bruises and welts from being whipped with a belt while the 13-month-old has spinal injuries, court records show.

Preston is facing six more misdemeanor counts — three each of assault and endangering children — in this year’s case.

Preston is in the Franklin County jail. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court on Thursday.
