Columbus artist re-purposes garbage into art

Art is in the eye of the beholder.

While most see a dumpster full of garbage, one Columbus man that sees a dumpster full of art.

For Donny Humes, there is nothing like creating art work. He is quick to point out that he is self-taught and describes himself as a re-purposing artist.

Donny's home and yard is decorated with his creations

So how does he come up with this stuff?

“I have a deep imagination and it just comes from within,” he said. “I don't go dumpster diving but I see things [when] I do remodeling of houses and I'll just put things in a bucket and accumulate them until an idea comes and I'll start assembling it.”

Things that were once destined for the trash pile now works of art.

So, the next time you are taking the trash out, Donny says to think about what you might be throwing away.
