JPMorgan Chase Bank expanded locally by opening a new tech center in Gahanna on Tuesday.

With a workforce of 17,000 JPMorgan Chase Bank is the largest private employer in the region and hopes to hire more than 400 new employees by early next year.

Gahanna mayor Becky Stinchcomb said this is good news for her city.

“That certainly helps our greater Gahanna economy,” said Stinchcomb, “These folks are going to restaurants for lunch and hopefully shopping in our stores and shopping in our community.”

Russell Weymouth was recently hired by Chase; he said he is a recent college graduate who, like many, had a rough time finding a job.

“Unemployment is scary right now,” said Weymouth, “Especially because I came from economics and finance where we're always studying the unemployment rate.”

It took Weymouth five months to find a job after graduating from Capital University with a degree in finance.

Weymouth said he is relieved to have found a job near home.

“I just got married a few months ago and wanted to stay with my now wife here and wanted to be in the community and hopefully raise a family," Weymouth said.
