COLUMBUS -- A bouncer was shot and killed while escorting patrons to their vehicles after closing time early Saturday morning at a pub on the west side of Columbus, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, Robert Lamont Woods, was working at O'Tooles Irish Pub and Grill and escorting patrons to their vehicle when a second vehicle pulled up with two men inside and opened fire, according to a press release from the sheriff.

Woods was struck and taken to Doctor's West Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“Lamont was a good person, he was always helping everyone, he had the heart of an angel,” Daryle Green, a bouncer O'Tooles Irish Pub and Grill said. "He was a very good friend and a partner of mine, we always had each other’s back and he always had everybody’s back inside of this bar."

The call came into the sheriff's office at 2:50 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect's vehicle was last seen westbound on West Broad Street fleeing towards I-270.

“I’ve been doing security for 16 years and I have never lost a partner and nothing this tragic has ever happened," Green said. "It is very sad that his life was taken it was personal. It was not right for his life to be taken over something that was uncalled for.”

The suspects are being described as black men, possibly in their early-to-mid 20’s. If anyone knows the identities of these suspects or have any information on this crime, they are asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 614-525-3351.

“My heart goes out to his family, his children’s mothers, his children this is so sad," Green said.
