Boost for high school seniors short of reaching new graduation requirements

Ohio high school students will have higher test and graduation standards this school year.

For students who are just shy of reaching those new requirements, there is a program to help them get a few extra points that could get them where they need to be to graduate.

It's called the Graduation Pathways program.

Students can earn extra points by earning a specific career certification, such as a certification in Adobe, as a nursing assistant or in construction.

Ohio's state Superintendent Paolo DeMaria says this allows kids more exposure to actual careers and hands-on learning.

High school seniors can also earn points for high level of attendance, work experience or community service.
